No
ending drama for the desperate refugees
“Bodies
of 18 migrants sailing from Libya to Italy have been found in the
Mediterranean in first such incident since the European Union took
charge of rescue operations in the area.”
“The
corpses were found 40 miles off the Libyan capital, Tripoli. The
migrants were probably heading toward the Italian island of
Lampedusa, one of the main destinations of migrants sailing from
Africa to Europe.”
“Reports
suggest that only in the first six months of 2014, more than 65,000
people took the risk of making illegal crossing from Africa to
Europe. More than 15,000 people have landed during the time span.”
“Italian
vessels recently rescued around 800 people in the Mediterranean.
However, thousands continue to die at sea with most of them being
drowned or dehydrated.”
