Held under Brazil’s presidency, the Summit highlights the bloc’s push for stronger Global South co-operation and influence in shaping international policy. BRICS was created in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining a year later. The bloc later expanded to include Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.
