Turkish journalists who are not yet in prison, wish you happy new year

  At least 100 Turkish journalists, including journalists and members of trade unions, presented a New Year's card for their colleagues who are in prison. The photo was printed in tens of copies to be sent to prisons. One of the participants, Ahmet Sik, was arrested a day after taking the photo. Τουλάχιστον 39 άνθρωποι, ανάμεσά τους και 16 αλλοδαποί σκοτώθηκαν και δεκάδες άλλοι τραυματίστηκαν όταν τουλάχιστον ένας ένοπλος ντυμένος με αγιοβασιλιάτικη στολή άνοιξε πυρ σε νυχτερινό κλαμπ της Κωνσταντινούπολης, όπως ανέφερε ο υπουργός εσωτερικών της Τουρκίας. At least 39 killed, 69 injured in Istanbul nightclub terrorist attack

Some 39 people, including 16 foreigners, were killed and dozens of others injured when at least one gunman reportedly dressed as Santa opened fire in an Istanbul night club, Turkey’s interior minister said. The manhunt for one terror suspect is underway.    Turkey’s interior minister, Suleyman Soylu, told Turkish media on Sunday morning that 21 victims have been identified so far, of whom 16 were foreign nationals and five Turkish citizens. Soylu said that the shooter is still at large. US special operations numbers surge in Africa's shadow wars

Africa has seen the most dramatic growth in the deployment of America’s elite troops of any region of the globe over the past decade, according to newly released numbers. In 2006, just 1% of commandos sent overseas were deployed in the U.S. Africa Command area of operations. In 2016, 17.26% of all U.S. Special Operations forces — Navy SEALs and Green Berets among them — deployed abroad were sent to Africa, according to data supplied to The Intercept by U.S. Special Operations Command. False story about Russian hacking of US electric grid
