Quiz
for the EU hypocrites: do you recognize the country below?
The EU
officials exhibited again huge hypocrisy, this time on the occasion
of the Catalan referendum, proving one more time that their
'wonderful' union respects 'democratic values', only when these serve
the interests of the EU establishment and the Western institutions,
taken over by the ruthless neoliberalism.
As the
Guardian
reports:
Despite
calls from Catalan authorities to condemn the brutal police crackdown
on their independence referendum, the EU and most member states were
reluctant to respond formally, seemingly viewing the dispute as an
internal Spanish matter. [...] Jean-Claude Juncker, the European
commission president, has said that Brussels must abide by the
decisions of the Spanish government and of Spain’s constitutional
court. The commission has said on several occasions that a vote in
favour of Catalan independence would be recognised but only if the
referendum that produced it complied with the Spanish constitution
and had been ruled legal.
How is it
possible to claim that the referendum is an "internal Spanish
matter" when Spain is member of the EU? The answer is simple:
they don't want to take clear position against their own neoliberal
puppet in Spain, called Mariano Rajoy.
But
remember: some of them, or their predecessors in the EU empire, were
'screaming' about the right for self-determination for the nations of
former Yugoslavia in the 90s. Who gave them the right to intervene
back then (in a nation not part of the EU), following, as always, the
US empire, and leading Yugoslavia into a massive bloodbath and its
final dissolution?
