Key
points from the press conference for the new political formation
Popular Union:
The former
SYRIZA MP, Panagiotis Lafazanis, and leader of the new political
party, Popular Union, described the basic commitments of the party.
As he said,
the key goals will be the cancellation of the memorandums, so that
the country to overcome the crisis, write off most of the national
debt, nationalization of the banks so that to contribute to growth,
the restructure of Greece's production, public investments, secure
liquidity, and establishing a new relation between the public and the
private sector.
To implement
its program, Popular Unity will decide that Greece should leave the
eurozone, if necessary. As Lafazanis pointed: 'Out of the eurozone is
not hell. There are other countries out of the eurozone too.'
He also said
that the 25 former SYRIZA MPs who have chosen to join the new party,
remain consistent to SYRIZA's commitments, to form a 'front of
popular base for the great and unified popular struggles, against the
memorandums, progressive, patriotic, with the purpose of national
independence and the restructure of the country.'
Finally,
Lafazanis clearly excluded any cooperation of this front with the
forces who applied the memorandums.
He pointed
that the Popular Unity will cooperate only with the progressive
forces who want to cancel the memorandums and called all the
progressive forces of the Left and especially the Greek Communist
Party (KKE) and the Anticapitalist Left Cooperation for the
Overthrow (ANTARSYA), to join forces with the Popular Unity.
